The fringed gold shoulder pieces on The General and The Admiral. On a real coat they marked rank. On a retriever they mark a certain seriousness about dinner.
The Admiral’s two-cornered hat, worn by naval and army officers from the 1790s onward. It is the only hat in our collection: the General and the Colonel are bareheaded.
The Colonel’s jacket is fastened with rows of gold braid, the trademark of the hussars. All three officers wear medals, and none of them is a real decoration.
The army, the navy and the cavalry. Choose one and it is selected in the order form below.
The uniforms are in the style of European dress uniforms of the early nineteenth century: high collars, gold lace, sashes, and more braid than any quartermaster would approve. They do not copy the insignia, medals or ranks of any real army or navy, past or present.
That makes them a good-humored gift for a veteran, a service member, or anyone whose dog runs the house like a barracks. If you are choosing for someone else, our page on pet portrait gifts covers timing and how to get the photo.

The 8 × 10 in canvas suits a shelf or a desk. The 11 × 14 in reads well from across a room and is the one we would pick. The 16 × 20 in is the statement piece, for the wall above a mantel or a console.
