Royal cat portraits

A custom portrait of your cat as a queen, a duchess, or a general if she insists, in the style of a court portrait, printed on real canvas. No costume and no sitting still: one photo is enough, and you see the portrait before you pay.

Why cats make the best sitters

They already sit like royalty

A cat looking slightly past you, eyes half closed, wears the exact expression court painters spent weeks coaxing out of duchesses. You only have to catch it once.

Nobody has to wear anything

The gown, the ruff and the crown are painted around your cat’s own head. There is no outfit, no hat and no bath.

Every coat has its color

White and cream coats glow against the burgundy of The Queen. Grey, silver and tabby coats sit beautifully in the cool blues of The Duchess. Black cats are striking in either.

A good photo of a cat

Cats do not pose, so the trick is to be ready when they settle.

  • Wait for the windowsill or the back of the sofa. Daylight from the side is the most flattering light there is.
  • Hold the phone at their eye level. Photos taken from above shrink the face.
  • Make a small noise or wiggle a toy just above the lens, take several shots, and keep the sharpest.
  • Turn off the flash. It bleaches fur and turns eyes into green lamps.

Questions about cat portraits

Will the portrait keep my cat’s markings?

Yes. The portrait is built on your photo: the pattern on the forehead, the color of the nose and the eyes are what make it your cat rather than a cat.

Can I use a photo where my cat is lying down?

Yes, as long as the face looks toward the camera with both eyes visible. The portrait is head and shoulders, so the pose of the body matters little.

Is The General available for cats?

Every title is. Choose it in the form and your preview shows your cat in uniform.

Can two pets share one portrait?

Not yet. Each portrait shows one pet. You can order a separate portrait for each of them.

Can I use an old photo of a pet who has passed away?

Yes. Any photo works as long as the face is reasonably sharp and at least 400 pixels on its shorter side. If you only have a printed photo, photograph it flat in daylight, without glare.

Is the portrait painted by hand?

No. We use AI image tools to create the artwork from your photo, then print it as a giclée on real canvas. That is why you can see it in about a minute, and why it costs far less than a commissioned painting.

Which size should I choose?

The 8 × 10 in canvas suits a shelf or a desk. The 11 × 14 in reads well from across a room and is the one we would pick. The 16 × 20 in is the statement piece, for the wall above a mantel or a console.
