Royal dog portraits

Which title for which dog

The watchful ones

Shepherds, Shibas, mastiffs, bulldogs, and every dog who believes the mail carrier is a security matter. The General’s navy coat and red sash suit a broad chest and a level stare.

The swimmers

Labradors, retrievers, spaniels, Newfoundlands. If your dog has ever brought half the lake back into the car, the bicorne of The Admiral is theirs by right.

The quick ones

Collies, terriers, pointers and anything that reaches the ball first. The green hussar jacket of The Colonel is the most decorated uniform we paint, and red and tan coats glow against it.

The adored ones

Maltese, Pomeranians, Yorkies, doodles and Frenchies. Pink satin, ribbons and a silver tiara: The Princess is for the dog who has never doubted her place on the bed.

A good photo of a dog

The portrait can only be as good as the face in the photo. Four things make the difference:

  • Get down to their eye level. A photo taken from above shortens the muzzle and hides the chest.
  • Use daylight: beside a window, or in open shade outdoors. Flash flattens fur and lights up the eyes.
  • Both eyes open and visible, ears where they naturally sit. A treat held just above the lens does it.
  • For a black dog, turn them toward the window so the eyes and the outline of the head show clearly.

Questions about dog portraits

Does it work for mixed breeds?

Yes. The portrait is painted from your photo, not from a breed template, so a one-of-a-kind dog gets a one-of-a-kind portrait.

My dog is black. Will the details show?

They will if they show in the photo. Take the picture in daylight with your dog facing the window: if you can see the eyes and the outline of the head, so can the portrait.

How big does the photo need to be?

At least 400 pixels on its shorter side, which every phone photo exceeds. Sharpness matters far more than size.

Can two pets share one portrait?

Not yet. Each portrait shows one pet. You can order a separate portrait for each of them.

Can I use an old photo of a pet who has passed away?

Yes. Any photo works as long as the face is reasonably sharp and at least 400 pixels on its shorter side. If you only have a printed photo, photograph it flat in daylight, without glare.

Is the portrait painted by hand?

No. We use AI image tools to create the artwork from your photo, then print it as a giclée on real canvas. That is why you can see it in about a minute, and why it costs far less than a commissioned painting.

How long does delivery take?

Printing takes 2 to 3 business days, and US delivery 1 to 5 business days after that. You get a tracking link by email when your canvas ships. Digital files are ready to download right after payment.
