The uniform
The Colonel wears the green jacket of the light cavalry: rows of gold braid fastened across the chest, a crimson collar and two silver medals. Hussars were the showmen of every army they rode in. Their braided jacket, the dolman, was copied from Hungarian horsemen and then by half the armies of Europe.
Behind the Colonel is dark parkland at dusk, all deep greens and browns, so the gold braid and the face catch the light.
Who it suits
For the quick ones: the dog who is first to the door, first to the ball and first to hear the fridge open. Shepherds, collies, terriers and pointers wear the braid well.
Red, tan, sable and black-and-tan coats glow against the green jacket and the dark trees. If your pet has upright ears, pick a photo that shows both: the Colonel is bareheaded.

Questions about The Colonel
What is a hussar jacket?
A short, tight cavalry jacket covered in rows of braid, first worn by Hungarian light horsemen and adopted across Europe in the 1700s and 1800s. It is the most decorated uniform we paint.
Which coat colors suit The Colonel?
All of them, but red, tan, sable and black-and-tan coats stand out best against the green jacket and the dark trees.
Can I order The Colonel as a digital file only?
Yes. Choose “Digital file” as the size. You download the high-resolution portrait right after payment and print it wherever you like.
Does my pet’s name appear on the canvas?
No. The name you type appears on the wall label next to your preview, as a museum would caption it. The canvas carries the portrait only.
Does the canvas come framed?
It comes stretched over solid wood bars, 1.25 in deep, with the picture mirrored around the edges and a sawtooth hanger attached. It needs no frame: one nail and it is up.
How long does delivery take?
Printing takes 2 to 3 business days, and US delivery 1 to 5 business days after that. You get a tracking link by email when your canvas ships. Digital files are ready to download right after payment.
Can I return my portrait?
Each portrait is made for one pet, so we can’t take returns for a change of mind. If your canvas arrives damaged or misprinted, email us a photo within 14 days and we will reprint it free.
